Movie-Themed Date Night Ideas

If you've been in a relationship for a while, you might have noticed a pattern in your date nights. Maybe you can't afford a night out or it's just become habit, but many couples tend to fall back on dinner and streaming a movie when spending time together. While it can be fun, the routine can get a little dull. To put a little spark back into your movie nights, try kicking it up a notch with some of these suggestions. They might seem a tad goofy, but if you have a good sense of humour, these themes can make your night in one to remember.

Romantic Thriller
If you're looking for a movie that has a little bit of everything, PictureBox calls Lust, Caution a "romantic thriller high on the drama, heavy on the violence, with those love scenes which are... explicit to say the least."

The film takes place in Shanghi, China, so there's no better food to have than chinese. Grab some authentic Chinese take-out, or make the night even more special by trying out some Chinese recipes of your own. Wow your guy by whipping up a new dish, or share in the experience by creating something together. Chef Bee Yinn Low has dozens of easy-to-follow recipes for some of the most popular Chinese dishes on Rasa Malaysia.

Sports Central
Sports, action, and drama make Friday Night Lights a movie that can satisfy all film lovers. The adaptation of the popular novel follows a high school football team in Texas during their 1998 season. An inside look at the players' personal lives combined with the intense game scenes will have your heart aching and your adrenaline pumping.

Go for classic game day food for this flick. Grill up some hotdogs or burgers together for dinner, or make your own homemade pizzas. Try some new toppings or sauces to add some unique flavor. You can also set out some stadium snacks to munch on during the movie. Load up some homemade nachos, and fill a big bowl up with popcorn. Cooking And Beer has a great recipe for homemade soft pretzels with a spicy beer and cheese dip that is sure to make you drool. For the drinks, pick up a pack of your guy's favorite beer. You can use it in the pretzel dip and complement the rest of your game day grub.

Island Inspired
If you're wanting something light-hearted that will keep you both laughing, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is one of my personal favorites for date night. Audiences follow Pete (Jason Segel) to Hawaii as he attempts to get over his ex-girlfriend Sarah (Kristen Bell), only to find she's staying at the same resort with her new boyfriend. Not only does this hilarious and crude rom-com have something for everyone, it has someone for everyone. In addition to Segel and Bell, you'll see Paul Rudd, Russell Brand, Jonah Hill, Jack McBrayer, Bill Hader, and Mila Kunis in the movie's all-star cast.

Most of us can't afford a trip to a 5-star resort this year, but you can still re-create a little of that island flavor at your own home. To loosen up and get into the island spirit, blend up some tropical drinks to sip on. What To Drink lists the 10 most popular island drinks including mai tais and margaritas, with detailed instructions on how make the perfect concoction. Certain smells can also help you reminisce on past vacations. Fragrances of a beachy-scented candle can help bring back the happy members of your last retreat.

You should feel foolish making your typical movie night an event to remember. You're bound to have more fun getting into the spirit of things, and your guy will appreciate the effort you put into making the night special. At the very least, you'll be able to eat some delicious food and relax together with some drinks—that alone is something to look forward to.

I once had sex in front of the movie I-Robot but wish to categorically state that Will Smith’s silky thighs had nothing to do with my mood.
